Meal Planning on a GLP-1: Is There a Zepbound or Ozempic Diet Plan?

Like any healthy eating plan, a Zepbound meal plan (or Ozempic) is built around lean proteins, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, and fiber.

Quick answer: There is no official Zepbound or Ozempic diet plan, but there is a clear list of foods that work well on GLP-1 medications: lean protein, fiber-rich vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and fruit. Building meals around these supports steady energy, fullness, and muscle maintenance while your appetite is lower.

If you are part of the roughly 12 percent of adults in the United States currently taking a GLP-1 medication for weight loss or to manage type 2 diabetes, you may be paying closer attention to your diet and planning weekly meals. If you have been prescribed Zepbound or Ozempic, you may have noticed some GI side effects and wondered whether a Zepbound grocery list or an Ozempic grocery list could help.

While there is no official Zepbound meal plan, there is a list of preferred foods to eat on Zepbound, Ozempic, and similar weight loss medications. Like any healthy eating plan, it is built around lean proteins, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, and fiber.

GLP-1 grocery list: foods for a Zepbound or Ozempic diet plan

GLP-1 medications reduce appetite and can cause side effects such as nausea. Because that affects how much you eat, it helps to include nutrient-dense foods at each meal so you still meet your daily recommended allowances (RDA) for macro and micronutrients. When you shop, try to add some of the following to your GLP-1 grocery list.

Breakfast

  • Steel-cut oats, rolled oats, or overnight oats
  • Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries to add natural sweetness
  • Chia seeds and flax seed, both a good source of fiber
  • Eggs for protein. Pair them with whole-grain bread (a complex carbohydrate) to feel fuller longer
  • Healthy fats from avocado, lox, or smoked salmon

Lunch and dinner

  • Lean protein. Skinless white-meat poultry, lean beef, pork, shrimp, and egg whites are filling, and protein helps you feel full while supporting muscle maintenance.
  • Fiber. An essential macronutrient that supports digestive regularity and helps regulate blood sugar levels, so there are fewer spikes. Fiber-rich foods include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, eggplant, peas, bell peppers, asparagus, spinach, kale, Brussels sprouts, and winter squashes like butternut, spaghetti, and acorn.
  • Whole grains. Not just for breakfast. Whole grains add fiber, vitamins, and minerals to lunch and dinner. Examples include brown rice, quinoa, farro, and barley.
  • Omega-3. Important for cardiovascular, brain, eye, and joint health. Sources include salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseed, and plant oils like soybean, flaxseed, or canola.
  • Fruits and vegetables. Another source of fiber and complex carbohydrates. Try blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, apples, pears, bananas, kiwi, oranges, or mangoes.

Knowing which foods belong on a GLP-1 grocery list is one thing. Getting them into the house each week, in portions a smaller appetite will actually finish, is where most plans break down. Hungryroot builds a weekly cart around the same categories a GLP-1 eater is aiming for: lean protein, fiber-rich produce, whole grains, and healthy fats, chosen from more than 1,000 grocery items and 50,000 chef-crafted recipes tagged for goals like High Protein and Gut-Friendly.

The starting point is a quiz on tastes, dietary needs, and who's eating, and SmartCart adjusts each week based on what's rated and reordered. You can swap items, resize a delivery when appetite dips, set a budget the service holds to, and pause or skip in a click. That means the groceries flex with an appetite that isn't always predictable, instead of a fixed menu doing the deciding.

Other considerations for GLP-1 meal planning

How much water should you drink on Zepbound or Ozempic?

Because GLP-1 medications can cause side effects such as nausea, staying hydrated matters, especially if you are experiencing them. Current recommendations from the Mayo Clinic suggest about 11.5 cups a day (2.7 liters) for women and 15.5 cups a day (3.7 liters) for men. Individual needs vary with health and activity, so check with your healthcare provider.

Zepbound and alcohol

Alcohol can work against weight-loss efforts and may affect blood sugar. Drinking is generally not recommended while taking a GLP-1, but your healthcare provider knows your history and can give you guidance.

Zepbound and coffee? Ozempic and coffee?

Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Zepbound, could increase heart rate, so you may want to limit coffee. The same caution applies with Ozempic. As always, check with your healthcare provider.
